Anime-Manga Gal, who is one of my Library's cataloger queens, earned a promotion recently. She is now Technical Services Manager, who is in charge of library cataloging. (Previously, she had been our Technical Services Librarian.) With this new job, she will manage the MPL cataloging team of six (if I'm counting correctly).
Cataloging is the heart of library service. When you search for an item in a library's collections on an OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), thank a cataloging librarian for your ability to find what you're looking for. Catalogers must organize the information needed to access materials. They were doing meta-data long before it was a flavor-of-the-week.
This is not to diminish the work of reference librarians, especially at my Library. All of our catalogers must also do considerable reference assistance for patrons. At most libraries, cataloging and referencing are separate disciplines; however, at smaller libraries such as mine, the staff must perform multiple, overlapping functions. This is an indication of just how talented our Library staff is.
Anime-Manga Gal will continue all her other duties, as well as assuming some of Payor Pal's tasks (and, of course, A-M Gal's new responsibilities). This includes her blog, from which I nicknamed her. (Want an action photo? You betcha.)
Congratulations, Anime-Manga Gal! Maybe now I'll get some treats in the vending machines.
Just Saying,

P.S. The Lady With the Red Hair, who has been a catalog librarian for 23 years (or so), suggested we use Three Dog Night's "Celebrate," from the group's LP Suitable for Framing (1969), as our musical closer. The song was released as a 45 r.p.m. single, and you get to hear it right here. Or here it right hear. Something like that.
