I Geek . . . Billboards of Moi

Remember the Geek the Libraries campaign that the Indiana State Library and many public libraries are doing?  Remember my "geek poster" (how could you forget, right?)  Did you watch our geek promo trailers?  Did you see my library colleagues' geek posters at the Old Settlers Festival/Picnic/Fair?  You'd think that would cover all the bases.

Not so!  There's a new Geek the Libraries billboard in Greenwood, Indiana.  Thanks to the alertness of the Greenwood Public Library staff, we have a cell phone photo.  Check this out.

Greenwood, Indiana Billboard

That's a mighty fine billboard, to be sure.  But I think it could be even better.

Improvement?  I'm Thinking So

Greenwood Public Library has some cool stuff for its patrons and staff.  Like, for instance, this absolutely pawsome magnetic sign that The Lady With the Red Hair is showcasing on her wheels.

Isn't that just the coolest thing you've ever seen?  Well, maybe not the coolest, but plenty cool, nevertheless.

So, Boss Lady, When Will We Be Getting Our Geek the Library Stuff?  Just Asking,

P.S.  Since geek is sometimes used as a synonym for nerd, the movie Revenge of the Nerds (1984) had a neat theme song performed by the Rubinoos.

What Do You Geek?

As part of the national (and Indiana State Library) Geek the Library campaigns encouraging the public to support libraries, I would like to know what you geek. Please let moi know via comments.

The Lady With the Red Hair created this promo trailer (Scowl-Face still calls them program trailers, which is SO yesterday's news), and The Music Man composed the soundtrack.

Whatever you geek, you'll find it at your favorite library, or, if not actually housed inside the library itself,  helpful library staff will direct you to other available resources.  Pursue what interests you.  Your favorite library can help, big-time.

P.S.  Here is a great Geek the Library video.  See what you can accomplish with a healthy budget, Boss Lady.  Just saying.

I Geek Moi

My Library is participating in the Geek the Libraries promotional campaign, which I discussed in an earlier blog posting.  Boss Lady wants her staff to be featured in posters for Old Settlers (and around the Library, generally).  Here's mine.

Need I say more?

P.S.  I geek is another way of saying that you dig something.  The folk group Peter, Paul & Mary sang "I Dig Rock and Roll Music," which appeared on the group's Album 1700 (1967).

Get Your Geek On At Your Local Library

The Indiana State Library (ISL) has launched a Hoosier version of the geekthelibrary.org promotional campaign.

Mooresville Public Library is participating in the excitement, and we have the promo trailer to prove it.

You can get your geek on at your local library.  There is much to geek at libraries, to be sure.  Why do you think I hang around mine?  Certainly not for the food, I can tell you.

P.S.  "Weird Al" Yankovic probably built his reputation as music parody genius upon a certain geeky quality.  There is nobody better at this musical genre, and that's impressive, considering the many talented novelty songsters over the years.  Weird Al's music videos are supremely well-crafted and funny.  "White & Nerdy" appeared on the CD Straight Outta Lynwood (2006).  Another great geeky tune (in the musical style of Devo) is Weird Al's "Dare to Be Stupid," from the album by the same title (1985).
