The One and Only Ivan

The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate, won the 2013 Newbery Medal for most distinguished contribution to American children's literature.  Sadly, my Library has no book trailer for it, but we could swipe somebody else's.  Minions, make it so.

Actually, we just borrowed that book trailer.  It's the publisher's official video promoting the book, so the author and HarperCollins want you to watch it.

Casey at the Bat visited North Madison Elementary School to present a book talk about The One and Only Ivan.  Mrs. Tracy Gercak's third graders did a class project about it.  Want to see photos?  You betcha.

Mrs. Gercak told Casey at the Bat that The One and Only Ivan is "the best book ever!"  High praise from someone who knows what interests her students.  After you read it, you may very well share her enthusiasm.  Winning the Newbery Medal is truly the cat's PJs.

Check our Evergreen Indiana online catalog to place a hold on a copy of the book, if you have the coveted E.I. library card.  It's frightfully popular (the book and the E.I. card), so you may have to wait a bit until a copy becomes available.  Well worth the wait, I'd venture.

Great job with your project, North Madison third graders!

P.S.  Julie Hembree, a school librarian in the Lake Washington School District in Redmond, Washington, made this book trailer for The One and Only Ivan.  Visit Julie's YouTube channel for other book trailers and videos promoting school libraries and literacy.
