Just in time for Cauli Le Chat Appreciation Day (TODAY!), I saw yesterday that the Library's Youth Services Department was preparing for my special banquet, which hasn't been announced but surely must be scheduled.  There was no mistaking the signs.

That settles it!  I'm now certain that those eggs are chicksoons.

I recognize those dudes.  They're from the Freer family, with whom "Flat" Cauli I spent some quality farmpaw time.  So there can be no question whatsoever that these eggs are destined to become winged dinners chicksoons.

P.S.  "Watching and Waiting," by the Moody Blues, appeared on the album To Our Children's Children's Children (1969).  I doubt Justin Hayward and Ray Thomas were thinking about chicksoons when they wrote this tune, however.

Andy Cuts Us a Whopper Check

Ten thousand dollars may not sound like much money today, but between 1912 and 1915, it was sufficient to construct a brand new public library in Mooresville, Indiana.  If you'd like to know where the money came from (the cryptic title character, "Andy") and who the other key players were in the financing, development, and construction of our Library, you'll have to read Scowl-Face's latest blog installment.  Hey, I sympathize.  Some sacrifices must be made to acquire knowledge.  Or sleep.

Library 100th Anniversary News Beat

P.S.  The then-richest man in the world paid to build MPL.  This was way before Bill Gates.

P.P.S.  The first MPL board of trustees probably sounded a little bit like the Beatles covering "Money (That's What I Want)," which appeared on the Fab Four's LP, With the Beatles (1963).  There's a video clip from a (probably) British television program somewhere online on which the Beatles performed the song live.  Well, they probably played along to the overdubbed recording that was broadcast during the show.

During a departmental meeting today, at which I was secretly curled-up on a book case catching a few Zzzzz, Boss Lady shared a story illustrating just how extensive and diverse our Library services are.  Want to hear it?  You bet you do.

Last week a patron visited the Library to make a photocopy.  He needed to make a copy in which his driver's license appeared on a particular form, but he was having trouble arranging it on the photocopy machine.  One of our helpful circulation staff placed the form on the bypass feed and oriented the driver's license so that it appeared exactly in the correct location.

Pleased as punch, the patron thanked our staffer, asking where in town he might go to send a fax (he needed to fax the form somewhere).  At our circulation desk, we happen to have a fax machine for public use.  Our patron was even more pleased.

"That's great," said the patron, "but I'll have to come back to fax it.  I need to go to a bank to get this [form] notarized."  No, he didn't, said our courteous staffer.  We once had two (then, later, three) notaries public on the premises, one of whom was working at the time our visitor needed his notarization.  So our patron had his document notarized forthwith, followed with a "fax chaser."

You can imagine just how wonderfully thrilled our patron was to have three of his immediate needs met simultaneously.  When it comes to patron services, our Library is MUCH more than books and movies.

Drop by to see all the really cool services and resources we have available for you.  You need an Evergreen Indiana library card to check-out materials from our various collections, but otherwise anybody, as a general rule, may utilize our other services (including reference and computers), attend our multitudinous programs, and receive free informational materials as available throughout the Library.

Remember to ask for BizMeister or Technigal when you want something notarized.  Maybe Technigal will be wearing those fishnet stockings she wore to Programma Mama's lodge murder mystery program last Saturday.

I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog posting that Savvy hit the local newspapers.  Well, not literally.  Why would anyone hit a newspaper?  Put one under the litterbox--sure, no problem.  But hit?  I don't think so.

P.S.  Savvy is synonymous with sophistication.  There were lots of popular songs in the 1930s about sophsitication, but "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails," recorded by Al Bowlly (with The Freshmen) (1935), is one such tune.  People used to get dressed up back then when they were stepping out.
