A Basketful of Whatever

Why, cats, of course.  But I'm putting the cart before the horse.

The Lady With the Red Hair, who volunteers at my Library but works as head of technical services at Greenwood Public Library (GPL), has a question.

At the bottom left, that's Mowgy (or Mowgie, possibly Mougy or Mougie)--actually, Mister Meowy, if we're being formal--reading the sign.  You've seen him before.  Buffalo Gal and Drawer Dude call him Leo.

The coolest part of this whole basket business is that the Lady With the Red Hair holds workshops at GPL and my Library teaching patrons how to weave their own wonderful baskets.  If you're interested in attending such a workshop, email moi from our website contact page.  If enough people are interested, we'll schedule a basket-weaving program.  Easy as that.

NaNoWriMo 2013

November is National Novel Writing Month.  That's NaNoWriMo for you acronym lovers.  Of course, we have a book display for that.

You, too, can write a novel.  Look at all the books we have in our various fiction collections throughout the Library.  Somebody wrote all those books.  Why not you?

We have many excellent "how-to" books about writing different fiction genres, or just writing fiction generally.  As you browse our novels on display--written by ordinary folks like you (but not like moi, as I am extraordinary)--you're bound to see that regular Joes and Janes can crank out these volumes alongside their more famous counterparts.  Plus, it's easy to release your works with small publishing firms (the so-called vanity presses) or digital publishers such as Amazon.com.  Digitization has democratized fiction publishing.  Admittedly, quite a pile of it is bad, but, hey, even great writers began with less-than-stellar efforts.

You owe it to the world to share your creativeness.  I do.  So should you.

P.S.  "Paperback Writer," by the Beatles, pretty much sums up the entire writer wannabe scenario.  This was a chart-topping single (1966) that later appeared on the compilation album Hey Jude (1970).

A Martian Mousetronaut

I have previously blogged about rattermeeces (sometimes spelled rattermeeses), but this is the first time I've mentioned a mousetronaut.  Our book trailer elaborates.

This is a cute children's picture book and is filled with scientific information.  The drawings are extremely authentic, which makes sense, given that author Mark Kelly is a NASA astronaut, and C. F. Payne can draw anything.  It is an uplifting adventure story that should inspire young readers to strive to explore and achieve.  It's available in our Evergreen Indiana online catalog.

Horrors on the Third Floor

There are horrors on the third floor--not at my Library (we don't have three floors), but in a haunted house novel by C. Dennis Moore.  Our book trailer elaborates.

Hey, dudes, just a suggestion.  Why not put a do not enter sign on the stairway leading to the third floor?  Just saying.

This book is plenty scary.  Fans of the paranormal or supernatural--especially haunted place stories--will be enthralled.  We don't have a copy yet in our Evergreen Indiana online catalog, but it's available from online sellers like Amazon.com.
