You Don't Even Have to Leave the Room

Kids and their caregivers may now self-checkout items while they're in my library's youth services department.  They don't even have to leave the room.  All they need are their Evergreen Indiana library cards.  Well, that, and stuff to checkout.  Duh.

Ready to Go!

This self-checkout kiosk used to be located at our circulation desk, but, as you can see, it's now situated in front of the passageway leading to the restrooms in our youth services department.  It's where the glass case used to be, just to the right of our youth services reference desk.  (If you hit the water fountain, that would probably hurt!  So step back a few paces.)

Thanks to TV's Amanda for taking some great photos for my minions to post on the library's website and social media.

Welcome, CatPro!

UPDATE (February 28, 2018):  Anthony Woodside wrote a very nice article about CatPro in today's edition of the Mooresville-Decatur Times.

Recently, my library's director of technical services, Lady RaDA, moved into a new job at another library.  So we've hired a new technical services librarian, whom I call CatPro, because she's a cataloging professional.  Plus, having cat in your name is way-cool.  (I believe her official title is technical services coordinator.)  Welcome!  I'd show you her photo, but Scowl-Face has been slacking on the job again and hasn't taken any of her yet.  But she's in this group picture from last Monday's staff in-service training.

CatPro honed her cataloging chops at Lebanon Public Library, where she worked with Evergreen Indiana open-source ILS (integrated library system), just like my library uses.  She's scheduled to become a Master of the Know (i.e., a librarian holding an M.L.S.--Master of Library Science--degree) by the end of 2018.  That's an impressive accomplishment, let moi tell you.  Not everybody has the brains and talent to earn that degree--just ask Scowl-Face (eye-roll)--so you should already be impressed with CatPro's drive and initiative.

CatPro has settled in nicely at my library.  She has already developed her work strategies and is rifling through all our new items, getting them processed and cataloged quickly and efficiently.  I haven't had a chance to meow with her yet, but from what I'm told, she has made a seamless transition and is running on all cylinders.  That's outstanding in and of itself, because my library, given its relatively small staff size, piles an enormous amount of stuff to do onto every employee's plate.  Well done, CatPro!

Speaking of plates, mine is empty, so CatPro can do something truly useful.  Make with the canned tuna-in-oil already!  My din-dins don't serve themselves.

We're really glad to have you on board, CatPro.  Now get to work.

Meet Captain Book

Meet the official mascot of my library's youth services department.

Meet Captain Book, by Mooresville Public Library
(click arrow above to play video)

What about moi?, you may ask.  Why am I not the official youth services mascot?  For starters, I am the library's official feline roving reporter (retired), which is much higher on the food chain than a mere mascot.  So the captain can do that--it's okay by moi.  I'm just relieved that I'm not being replaced.

TV's Amanda did a great job introducing Captain Book in that promo trailer (video).  She's a natural talent, given her family's television background.

What will Captain Book be doing at the library?  You'll have to drop by to find out!  What am I, a social secretary?  Not!

Seriously, the captain will be doing lots of fun things with TV's Amanda in her children's programs.  Those superpowers will come in handy once programming resumes on Monday, January 29.

Not E-xactly, But Clos

It's not E-xactly right, but it's clos.

Who's That Strange Feline?  Just Asking

Our new outdoor LED sign has been running for a month now, but we just had the lettering installed last Friday.  During installation, the final letter E broke, so "Mooresville" is temporarily misspelled.  (Our librarians know how to spell; we're not idiots.  Well, except Scowl-Face.)

So please bear with us while we await the replacement letter E.  E's are overrated, I'll venture.  Why do we need them?  Put another way:  Why do w* n**d th*m?  Okay, I guess we do.

Meanwhile, you may watch all the important messages sliding across the sign about our upcoming programs, events, and services.  That's the critical part, truly.  But what I really want to know is:  Who is that cat with the glasses?  This library already has a roving reporter.  'Nuff said.
