The Couturier Kid Joins Mad Scientists

My library's Miss Catherine, whom I call the Couturier Kid, has recently been published in the prestigious Mad Scientist Journal (Summer, 2019 issue).  Published by DefCon One, the journal is available in online and print formats (details are available on the Mad Scientist Journal website).  The print book is available to purchase or to checkout from my library's Evergreen Indiana catalog.

The Couturier Kid is something of a mad scientist herself.  I've got some photos of her somewhere in a mad scientist costume and a steampunk costume from past Halloweens  at the library (2017 and 2016, respectively).  Minions, make with the file searching.

Astute readers of this blog know that costumes are the Couturier Kid's thing, as she designs movie costumes for the big screen.

I highly recommend you checkout Mad Scientist Journal.  If you want to rule the world, it's your best tool (short of being a feline, of course).

P.S.  Who doesn't like the Mad Scientists from Mystery Science Theater 3000?  Here are Doctor Clayton Forrester and TV's Frank talking to Joel and the 'Bots about "deep hurting" as part of their experimental regimen.  (There have been other Mads as well in the series.)  If you're unfamiliar with the show (and movie riffing generally), all questions are answered here.  My library has MST3K videos to checkout, as well as its spinoffs, Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic.

Recommended Spooky Reading

Is it too early to recommend some spooky reading?  Halloween is just around the corner.  Well, some corner, somewhere.  It might be forty blocks away, but the weather is fine, and the walking will do you good.

Learn How to Make Your Very Own Movie!

Have you ever wanted to make your very own movie but don't know where to start?  Then we've got an upcoming program that you certainly won't want to miss.

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., in the library's community room, film director and screenwriter Demetrius Witherspoon will be sharing his experiences (and secrets) in making and financing motion pictures.  Mr. Witherspoon is CEO of DV Entertainment Pictures, which has produced the Submerge movie series.  For those playing along at home, that's these:

• Submerge:  The Chronicles of Ni're
• Submerge:  Ni're Reborn
• Submerge:  Echo 51
• Submerge:  Galaxy of Subversion (currently in development)

My library has DVD copies of Submerge:  Echo 51 and Submerge:  Ni're Reborn, as well as the novelization of Submerge:  Echo 51, available to checkout with your Evergreen Indiana library card.

We've got a nice display across from our circulation desk.  On the mannequin is the official "behind-the-scenes" movie crew t-shirt and one of the actual props used by characters in the film.  We even have a movie poster signed by Mr. Witherspoon!  The library's own Miss Catherine, whom I call The Couturier Kid, worked on costuming for Submerge:  Echo 51 (see our previous blog post for details).  The Decorinator and BizMeister created the display topper.  That's a galaxy.  It's pretty cool.  (Thanks, Couturier Kid, for letting us borrow the mannequin, t-shirt, and prop.)

Number Quatre, I'd Be

I Am Number Four, by Pittacus Lore, is the first in the Lorien Legacies series targeted toward young adult readers.  It's an exciting coming of age/love story/science fiction adventure.  It has extraterrestrials, after all.  Our book trailer borrowed heavily from the publisher's description, but, hey, the music's great.

The book and audiobook are available to check-out from our Evergreen Indiana online catalog.  You don't have to be a teen to check it out, though. Grown-ups are always welcome. Preteens should ask their parents or other caregivers.

Of course, for moi, the title would be number quatre, but that's just moi.
