Kindles, Nooks, & Other Doodads

Hoosier fans of digital downloadable library books (and other digitized media) were probably doing backflips when the eIndiana Digital Consortium announced that OverDrive, which is an online digital database from which patrons may download library books, now has downloads compatible with Amazon.com's Kindle digital readers, as well as the Barnes & Noble Nooks and other such gizmos.

Want to know more about OverDrive and the eIndiana Digital Consortium?  You bet you do.  Have we got a jazzy promo trailer about it?  Duh!

(The video refers to OverDrive being available at my Library on October 11.  That's 2010.  We've been a member of the eIndiana Digital Consortium for over a year now.)

Personally, I don't have one of those digital reader doodads, but I'm open to the idea.  A major seasonal gift-giving opportunity is only a couple of months away.  Just saying.

Library Technology News Beat

P.S.  Sometimes people feel "swallowed up" by technologies, especially the latest expensive electronic gadgets.  That was, more or less, the theme of "TVC-15," by David Bowie, from the album Station to Station (1976).  The song tells the story of a holographic television into which the narrator's girlfriend crawls, to be followed sometime thereafter by the narrator.  Bowie's song presaged today's virtual reality computer systems.

P.P.S.  Speaking of virtual realities, we have a book trailer for a novel about that very thing.  Here is our video featuring Ready Player One, a science fiction book by Ernest Cline.

  1. My human has a Kindle and she thinks it is awesome! My problem with it is that it is not as much fun to sit on as a regular book.
