Judging by my minions' latest promo trailer, I'd say we're well beyond books here.

Some of those things looked like they'd be fun for felines to play with.  So how come I wasn't invited to appear in the video?  Just asking.

Perhaps someone felt I might swat something off a desktop.  I would NEVER do such a thing, at least while anybody was looking.  Anyway, I categorically deny all responsibility for that thing that broke.  I didn't knock it off the circulation counter.  I don't care what the surveillance videos show.

Beyond Books

Lady RaDA has created a cool "beyond books" display featuring lots of fun items you may checkout with your Evergreen Indiana library card.  The display is across from the library circulation desk, next to the Paul Hadley paintings.

The only item missing that would make the perfect display would be some canned tuna-in-oil.  I'd check that out, pronto.  Well, I'd have my minions check it out for moi.  I'm not sure how I'd return it to the library, however.

If you have any questions about checking out these items, just ask our circulation staff or Lady RaDA herself.  I'd explain it all, but my department is cuteness, which actually explains itself.  Just look at my photos, and it's self-explanatory.

Where Large Print Went

If you're looking for large print books at my library, you won't find them where they used to be shelved (along the wall shared with the community room).  So where'd they go?  Take a peek at where the adult fiction books (A-C) used to be shelved.  (Click the photos to bigify.)

New Shelving Location For Large Print Books

Large print books are now shelved on the front shelves in the adult fiction area, starting at the north end (i.e., closest to the emergency exit onto the courtyard).  Large Print now occupies about two-and-one-half shelf ranges, as shown in the photos below.

Look for signs like these on the ends of the shelves.

So, where did all the adult fiction books go?  They start behind the newspaper & magazine shelves, run west (toward the community room shared wall), then run along that shared wall, then come back east (toward the grand hall) until they reach where large print are now shelved.  Easy, right?  Well, come take a look.  You'll see how it's arranged easily enough.

Adult Fiction K-M is along the back wall where Large Print used to be.  Deal with it.

Many thanks to Miss Kathleen (whom I'm now going to call CompTechGal as her Cauli nickname) and her team for shifting all those books around in really short order.  They were super-fast, so maybe I should call her The Flash.

Listen to the Moon

One of my Library's recently cataloged children's chapter books is Listen to the Moon, a novel by Michael Morpurgo, who also wrote War Horse.  Learn more on the author's website.

Naturally, we have a book trailer.

Those Books Just Won't Sit Still

Wowie-Wow-Wow!

Fans of the television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) (1988-1999) will immediately recognize this movie quote:  "Wowie-wow-wow!"  (Apologies to Arch Hall, Jr.).  Need a further hint?

Yep.  Pretty Much.

The dialogue ("Watch out for snakes!" and "Wowie-wow-wow!") comes from MST3K episode #506, Eegah! (1962), a "monster movie" in which teen rocker Tom Nelson (played by Arch Hall, Jr.) reacts to his well-dressed girlfriend, Roxy Miller (played by Marilyn Manning) by speaking the "Wowie" line.  The film revolves around a prehistoric giant (played by Richard Kiel).  For the uninitiated, MST3K riffed bad movies like this (i.e., made jokes while the movie was playing).

Anyway, I mention the line because my Library now has Wowbrary.  (All together now.) Wowie-wow-wow!  See, it's fun to say and hear.  Well, maybe not so much.

P.P.S.  Here's Arch Hall, Jr. (playing the character Tom Nelson) in the movie Eegah! (1962), singing to Marilyn Manning (playing his girlfriend, Roxy Miller).  It's heavily riffed in the MST3K version, but this clip was taken from the original.  It's kinda sweet, in a teenager-kind of way.  Teen audiences who saw this film over 50 years ago could relate.

Watch the Books Pile Up

Watch the books pile up as your preschoolers (assuming, of course, that you have some--if not, you could always borrow) enjoy reading a thousand books before kindergarten.  That's a whole lotta books, to be sure, but your kiddies can do it in our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.  Crafty Gal can show you how.  Our program trailer elaborates.
