PAW is the Word (Acronym, Really)

Guess what week this is?  I'll give you a hint:  PAW is the word (acronym, really).

Boss Lady has declared May 12-18, 2013 to be Patron Appreciation Week (PAW).  To show our appreciation, we've placed a cookie and comment table by the new self-serve holds shelves, next to the Friends of the Library (FOL) Book Sale Room.  I'd include a photo, but our digital camera is being used.  Just visualize cookies.

Pretty Much, More or Less

We also have an FIB (fill-in-the-blank) form that patrons visiting the Library may complete to suggest how we may improve our services.  It's next to the cookies.  That should encourage folks to submit their comments.

I had a funny blog posting about PAW from a couple years ago, which you might enjoy.  You know where to click.

Ribbit!

Today (May 13) is Frog Jumping Day.  Celebrate by jumping like a hopping dinner!  Or watch our book trailer below.

MPL Book Trailer #130
Fun Facts About Frogs! by Carmen Bredeson

This book is in our level 3 Ready to Read collection in our youth services department.  It's ready to check-out, if you have an Evergreen Indiana library card.

Hopping dinners are loads of fun for moi to watch.  I like to see them jump. I don't eat them, of course, because my dinner comes on a plate out of a can.

If you're a human, you, too, could hop like one of these amphibians.  You'd look rather foolish, unless, of course, you're a people kid.  They can get away with any type of fun behavior.  But grown-up humans--not so much. Too bad, really.  Adult peoples need to lighten up.

Read Mark Twain's short story, by the way.  Jumping frogs can make you money!  Or not.

Our Tribute to Cataloger Queen

That truly sad day is approaching when Cataloger Queen will be departing for green pastures and happy trails.  What my Library will do without her is anybody's guess.

Fortunately, we have hired Ivy Technigal as our new youth services assistant/cataloger, and we are quite happy about that.  But there is absolutely NO WAY we could ever replace Cataloger Queen.  That's no reflection upon Ivy Technigal, who is a fine addition to the MPL teamsters; rather, it's just an acknowledgement of the magnificent array of librarian skills that Cataloger Queen will be taking with her.

We can't let Cataloger Queen leave without suffering the humiliation of one of our tribute trailers.

Adieu, Cataloger Queen.  May you always fare well.

P.S.  Let's watch and listen to The Glance perform "Spies" (2011).  This is Cataloger Queen's favorite musical group.

Meet Ivy Technigal

Meet Ivy Technigal, who will be assuming Cataloger Queen's position as the Library's new youth services assistant & cataloger.  I'd show you her picture, but Scowl-Face hasn't taken one yet.  Well, he did, sort of.  Watch this video, and you'll see her.

Libraries and Old Dewey, by Suzanne Walker
(Watch for Ivy Technigal around the 2:55-3:01 marks)

Her "Cauli nickname" is Ivy Technigal because:
  • She graduated from Ivy Tech; and
  • Her degree is in library technical services
Ivy Technigal just completed her internship (and final course) here at MPL, so she already knows her way around.  We like to hire our interns here.  Just ask Casey at the Bat, head of MPL Youth Services.

Ivy Technigal is not to be confused with "regular" Technigal, who is MPL Assistant Director/Head of Technical Services.  I suppose I could have come up with a totally different nickname for Ivy Technigal, but they don't grow on trees, you know.  Nicknames, I mean.  Well, I guess the two Technigals don't, either.

P.S.  "Ivy, Ivy," by the Left Banke, was released as a single (1967) but failed to break into Billboard's hot 100 singles chart (the song peaked at #119).

Clocking-Out a Classic Murder Mystery

Here's a classic murder mystery our patrons may clock-out--I mean, check-out--using their Evergreen Indiana library cards.  Our book trailer explains.

MPL Book Trailer #172
The Clocks, by Agatha Christie

We have book trailers for other mysteries, if you'd like to watch our playlist.

P.S.  In this documentary excerpt, actor David Suchet talks about Agatha Christie and his portrayal of her famous fictional detective, Hercule Poirot.
