Today's Word is Moi

Indiana librarians keep up with the latest developments in the Hoosier library world by reading the Indiana State Library's digital newsletter, Wednesday Word.  Guess who's featured in today's edition?

It's not commonly known, but the Lady With the Red Hair, one of my minions, wrote for Wednesday Word back in the late 1990s and early 2000s when she was head of the Indiana State Library Catalog Division.

There are many fine spokescritters (several felines, but also bunnies, birds, fish, and other friendly faces) in Hoosier libraries across the state.  We are highly effective public relations officers who can really draw in the crowds.  Here are just a few famous friends:

• Chance (and the late Tober), boss cat at Thorntown (Indiana) Public Library;
• Morgan the Library Bunny at Morgan County (Indiana) Public Library;
• Oliver the Library Cat at Clinton (Indiana) Public Library;
• Carnegie the Library Cat at Brazil (Indiana) Public Library;
• Westfield Washington Public Library (Indiana) has fish (I call them swimming dinners) as its spokescritters (following my suggestion blogged in 2011).

If your library doesn't have a spokescritter, we highly recommend adopting one.  Somebody's got to keep all those humans in line.

What's That Silver Thing?

If you've read Scowl-Face's local history blog and survived to tell the tale, you may have seen his articles about Mooresville's new Bicentennial Park downtown.  It looks like this (it may look blurry, but it will be in focus when you play it):

What's that big silver thing in the middle?  Actually, there are three silver things.  Is this a new place for moi to hangout and set my supper dish?

I don't see a place to sleep on these silver things.  The edges are too small and aren't flat enough.  It does make an excellent scratching post, as you can see from the marks there.  I wonder if most of my feline friends from around town have already visited here?

Scowl-Face just told moi that the silver things represent the flames atop the torch on the Indiana State Flag.  Funny--I don't feel any heat, and they're not orange or red like fire.  Maybe it's some kind of cool flame.  Let's compare it to the state flag.  What do you think?

Scowl-Face also says that it's a sculpture, not real flames.  Since Mooresville is the home of the Indiana State Flag, I guess that sculpture makes sense.
